Meta-immunological profiling of children with type 1 diabetes identifies new biomarkers to monitor disease progression
Il 07/02/2014 ore 14.30 - 15.30
Sala Conferenze CNR, Via P. Castellino, 111 80131 Napoli
Dr. Galgani from Istituto per l'Endocrinologia e l'Oncologia Sperimentale (CNR), Naples, will give a seminar on the comprehension of pathogenetic mechanisms at the basis of Type 1 Diabetes, and, in particular, on the identification of novel biomarkers reflecting diabetes progression. His research is focused on the study of immune system in both physiological and pathological conditions. In particular, his main interest concerns the study of the pathogenetic mechanisms leading to the alteration of immune tolerance during autoimmune diseases, such as Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Recently, Dr. Galgani aims at studying the functional characteristics of regulatory T cells (TREG) a specific CD4+ T cell population involved in the control of immune tolerance. Specifically, his main focus is the clarification of the biological link between metabolism and TREG functions.
