The president of Cnr, Maria Chiara Carrozza, attended the event at the Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, which preceded the celebrations for the Italian Research Day in the World. More than 100 Italian researchers were present, working in universities and research centres across the United Arab Emirates.
The Embassy of Italy in Abu Dhabi hosted at the residence of Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara a prestigious event to celebrate GRIM2025 (the Italian Research Day in the World). This day aims to highlight the contributions of Italian researchers and academics working abroad, showcasing Italy's commitment to science, technology, and innovation. The GRIM2025 initiative is promoted by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The celebration brought together over 100 Italian researchers currently working in universities and research centers across The United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The event highlighted the growing importance of fostering scientific collaboration between Italy and The United Arab Emirates. The Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara said that: “Upon my arrival in Abu Dhabi, I decided to strongly enhance scientific diplomacy by investing in the presence of more than 150 Italian researchers working in Emirati universities. The Italian Embassy has also established a network of Italian researchers to foster scientific relations between Italian and Emirati universities. By supporting these scientific exchanges, we aim to strengthen our bilateral cooperation and emphasize the significant role of research and dialogue in fostering innovation, peaceful coexistence, and economic progress.”
Following the Ambassador's greetings, the President of the Italian National Research Council (Cnr), professor. Maria Chiara Carrozza, highlighted the achievements and future plans of the Italian research community. “Scientific research is nowadays deeply committed in facing urgent and no longer postponable challenges that concern the future of our planet: ecological transition, energy and food supply, preserving the world biodiversity, mitigating climate-environmental impacts, just to name a few. These are transversal and very complex issues, which require the creation of a ‘global knowledge ecosystem’ in which to enhance skills from different cultures and worlds. In this frame, I think as a value the presence here of so many good Italian researchers, strongly committed in making significant strides in various fields and contributing to a cultural environment based on scientific excellence and innovation.”
The Executive Director of the Quantum Physics Division at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), professor. Luigi Amico, spoke about the collaborative efforts between Italy and the UAE. “2025 has been declared by United Nation as the ‘Year of Quantum Science and Technology’. TII has achieved remarkable milestones in quantum research, placing Abu Dhabi at the forefront of technological innovation. Our collaborations with international partners, including Italy, have led to groundbreaking advancements that push the boundaries of what is possible. Together, we are shaping a future where science knows no borders, and innovation thrives.”
