Abstract
The understanding of most fundamental questions about current and new 2D materials requires a careful combination of microscopic and spectroscopic approaches to provide state-of-the-art information on the atomic arrangement, the electronic structure, the chemical composition and the fabrication process, ranging spatially from mesoscale to atomic resolution and energetically from hundredths to hundreds of eV. This research project aims at achieving comprehensive characterization of 2D model systems by developing all experimental set-ups of the STRAS group at IOM in a single, fully integrated and interoperable multipurpose laboratory providing state-of-the-art information on the atomic arrangement, the electronic structure, the chemical composition and the fabrication process, ranging spatially from mesoscale to atomic resolution and energetically from hundredths to hundreds of eV. To enforce data provenance, the instrumental developments will be conceived to be FAIR-by-design and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) solutions will be integrated to record semi-automated metadata throughout the whole experimental workflow.
