Abstract

Plastics have invaded all industrial sectors thanks to their extraordinary properties. However, increasingly stringent environmental regulations and the growing awareness of the continuous depletion of fossil resources are the main drivers that increasingly push the world of research and industry towards the exploration of the potential offered by raw materials from renewable resources. In this context, experimental investigations are planned for the development of new materials based on bio-matrices or on conventional matrices of petrochemical origin but modified by the inclusion of natural phases (fabrics, fibres, particles and so on). The rational use of raw materials and the optimization of production conditions will be strictly guided by the intrinsic characteristics of the constituents and by preliminary rheological analyses. Environmentally friendly samples will be systematically studied in terms of thermal and mechanical performance as well as morphological aspects.
