Abstract
Study of nano-plastics bioaccumulation in living organism.
CNR will provide mussels (native and invasive species), obtained by environmental sampling, and maintained under controlled laboratory conditions at both CNR and JRC. All the selected models will be used for further development of the method for extraction, quantification and identification of nanoplastics in complex matrices.
Invertebrate/vertebrates will be exposed to labelled nanoplastics relevant for environmental-human exposure and bioaccumulation provided by JRC. The animal models' selection is based on aquatic organism relevance into two mainly fields of application: (i) transfer of nanoplastics along the trophic chain; (ii) bioindicators/bioaccumulators of the presence of nanoplastics in the environment.
In vivo standard models will be reared in the laboratory to serve as reference through experimentally controlled exposure conditions to artificially synthesized nano plastics.
