Abstract
The project brings together all existing competences existing within the Pisa unit of the Institute of Chemical and Physical processes of importance in the field of advanced materials. The goal of the collective efforts is that of achieving information on the design, synthesis and characterization of novel materials, and in particicular on: synthesis and characterization of new polymeric systems; development of hybrid systems and nanocomposites; study of the mechanisms of interaction between polymers, substances of low molecular weight and/or nanoparticles; development of methods for measurement of local functional properties at interfaces; chemical modification and formulation of new materials of natural origin and biodegradable materials (eg. packaging); technologies for nanostructured membranes for separation processes; ab initio modeling to analyze structure, processes and properties of materials in condensed, liquid and gaseous states.
Goals
The research areas covered by the Project overlap nicely with the objectives of the DSCTM Project on advanced materials: Synthesis and characterization of new polymeric systems; development of hybrid systems and nanocomposites; study of the mechanisms of interaction between polymers, substances of low molecular weight and/or nanoparticles; development of methods for measurement of local functional properties at interfaces; chemical modification and formulation of new materials of natural origin and biodegradable materials (eg. packaging); technologies for nanostructured membranes for separation processes; ab initio modeling to investigate in detail structure/properties relationships, with applications in a wealth of areas.
