Abstract
The joint Italian-Iranian project undertakes scientific investigations in the Marivan plain, located in the central-northern Iranian Kurdistan in order to study the occupational history of the area south of the Lake Zaribar. The examination of the artefacts from surface survey and preliminary results of the excavations carried out at Qaleh Naneh revealed a long sequence of human occupation (from the Chalcolithic to the Parthian period), confirming the high archaeological potential of this area. Considering the present situation for Covid-19, the activity will concern small excavations and/or study of the archaeological materials and analyses carried out on biological samples (charcoals, bones). An exhibition will be organised in the Autumn 2020 at the University of Rome 'Sapienza' on 'Advanced Technologies and Methodologies applied to the Cultural Heritage of the Islamic Republic of Iran'.
