Abstract

The goal of QUCHIP is to study applications of quantum walks in simulating quantum phenomena. These represent the most direct methodology to investigate quantum transport phenomena over complex networks. While this area has attracted substantial research activity, a clear understanding of the intricate roles of quantum coherence, environmental interactions, and graph geometry in transport dynamics has not yet been possible. To tackle this challenge, we will bring together complementary theoretical and experimental expertise. Our quantum photonics platform will enable us to investigate theoretical models directly in the laboratory, with rapid exchange between theory and experiment. These studies will span the simplest single-particle QWs with environmental fluctuations to QWs in multidimensional structures with multiple, identical quantum particles. In additional to quantum transport, we will investigate a connection of QWs to simple spin systems to broaden the applicability of our simulator.QUCHIP will address four main objectives:
Objective 1. Multiphoton quantum walk
Objective 2. Boson sampling
Objective 3. Photonics quantum technologies
Objective 4. Simulated quantum phenomena
