Cohesion Policy
In the context of the Cohesion Policy, the Research Support and Grant Office (Usrg) of CNR is involved in a complex framework of actions aimed at meeting the needs of the whole scientific network: from participation in the drafting of national and regional programs, to presence in Partnership Tables and Monitoring Committees, up to scouting and involvement of the scientific network with funding opportunities.
The Office supports the scientific network in the preparation of national and regional funding applications in response to research calls related, among others, to the Programmes co-funded under the European Union's Cohesion Policy and managed at a decentralised level through National Programmes (NPs) and Regional Programmes (RPs).
Cohesion Policy, as provided for in Article 174 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), is the main investment policy of the European Union. It benefits all EU regions and cities and supports economic growth, job creation, business competitiveness, sustainable development and environmental protection.
In order to reduce the disparity in the level of development between the regions of the Union, Cohesion Policy is co-funded by the Structural Funds: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), intended to contribute to the correction of the main regional imbalances existing in the European Union, and the European Social Fund (ESF), which is the main fund for investing in people.
The 2021-2027 European programming period provides for the implementation of 58 Programmes in Italy co-funded by the Structural Funds:
- 10 National Programmes, of which 3 co-funded by the ERDF, 1 co-funded by the ESF+, 5 multi-fund co-funded by the ERDF and the ESF+ and 1 Programme co-funded by the Just Transition Fund (JTF)
- 38 Regional Programmes, of which 17 co-funded by the ERDF, 17 co-funded by the ESF+ and 4 multi-fund co-funded by the ERDF and ESF+
- 10 European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) Programmes, co-funded by the ERDF under the European Territorial Cooperation objective. In addition, there are 9 more Programmes in which Italy participates within the scope of this objective.
