A user-friendly tool based on an original algorithm recently published in the Remote Sensing Journal has been developed at Cnr-Imaa, in collaboration with the School of Engineering of University of Basilicata, to map volcanic thermal anomalies at a global scale by means of Sentinel 2 data of the European Earth Observation programme Copernicus. The tool exploits the high computation capabilities offered by Google Earth Engine in order to allow users to visualize thermal anomalies and perform time series analysis in the selected volcanic areas (more than 1400 volcanoes worldwide) and periods of interest. In addition, it enables the analysis of data from the NASA-USGS Landsat-8 mission to exploit advantages of using a multi-platform/multi-sensor approach. Finally, the tool may integrate information from operational volcano monitoring systems providing accurate information about location, shape and spatial extent of volcanic thermal anomalies.
