Marie Curie Experienced Researcher Position in Signal and Image Processing

Applications are invited for an Experienced Researcher position within the framework of the European Marie Curie Research and Training Network "Augmented Reality in Surgery" (ARIS*ER, see http://www.ariser.info) at the Institute of Clinical Physiology (http://www.ifc.cnr.it), National Council of Research, Lecce site (http://www.ifc.cnr.it/lecce), Italy. The scientific objectives of ARIS*ER concern the development of "super vision" for surgeons by use of augmented reality (AR) display of computer generated medical images on top of the real patient, in the context of minimally invasive surgery. The network comprises 8 scientific partners in 7 European countries.

The selected candidate will carry out research in the following areas:

  • Signal and Image Processing Applications
  • AR user interfaces for image guided surgery
  • Tracking methods for clinical AR
  • AR application framework for support of minimally invasive surgery
  • Real time volume rendering for augmented reality displays
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary and challenging environment in image and signal processing, computer graphics, augmented reality, and computer vision. Candidates should have a doctoral degree or 4 to 10 years experience after obtaining a MS or equivalent degree in biomedical engineering or signal and image processing or computer science or in a related field, as well as advanced software development skills and a high motivation to work within a team.
The position offers EC Marie Curie salary and allowances, as well as opportunities to collaborate with other members of the network, and to attend short courses, meetings, summer schools and workshops held at the project partner sites and international sites. Preference will be given to applicants who are citizens or residents of the European Union and associated countries. To favour research mobility across Europe, the position is not open to Italian applicants, except those who have resided outside Italy for four of the past five years.
