Canada and Italy announce the creation of the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Artificial Intelligence, marking a milestone in cooperation between the two countries in the field of science, technology, and innovation (STI). The group will be co-chaired by Mona Nemer, Chief Scientific Advisor of Canada, and Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR).
The JAG is fully in line with the Italy-Canada Road Map for Enhanced Cooperation announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the G7 Summit in Puglia. The Road Map reflects the determination to work hand in hand to address the most pressing global challenges and promote sustainable prosperity for both countries.
The group will foster the design, development, and adoption of secure and reliable AI solutions. Through this initiative, Italy and Canada aim to address common priorities in artificial intelligence in key sectors such as life sciences, transport, and cybersecurity, and to encourage bilateral collaboration across the entire STI ecosystem.
Canada's Ambassador to Italy, HE Elissa Golberg, a member of the Advisory Group, commented: ‘The creation of the JAG builds on existing excellent scientific collaboration between our two countries, and reflects our shared commitment to innovation in tackling today’s great challenges.’
By realising this initiative, Canada and Italy confirm their desire to work together to build a safer, more innovative, and sustainable future, and promote global prosperity through technological progress and the responsible use of new technologies.
