Molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic DNA replication from biochemical and cryo-EM studies

Il 27/09/2019 ore 12.00 - 13.00

Sala Conferenze CNR, Area della Ricerca Na1, via Pietro Castellino 111, 80131 Napoli

Dr. Luca Pellegrini (Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, Cambridge CB2 1GA, United Kingdom) will give a seminar on the molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic DNA replication from biochemical and cryo-EM studies.

The faithful inheritance of genetic information is essential to cellular life. Successful transmission of the genetic material requires the accurate replication of the genome and the repair of any DNA lesion that might block replication or alter the encoded message. Failure of the complex molecular systems that preserve the integrity of our DNA is a major contributing factor in human disease.

Research in Pellegrini’s lab aims to define structural and functional properties of proteins and protein complexes responsible for the maintenance and replication of our genome. The experimental approach involves the reconstitution in vitro of the biological system under investigation, which can then be subject to biochemical and biophysical analysis using x-ray crystallography and single-particle cryo-EM analyses.
