Abstract

This project is intended to complement the activities already performed in the frame of the GeoSTARe mission concept. GeoSTARe is a geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar (GEO SAR) mission (Hobbs et al., 2014b). Geosynchronous SAR's have been studied for many years (Tomiyasu, 1978; Prati et al., 1998) because of their potential for high temporal resolution imaging over continental regions, farther increasing the plenty of radar applications. Past GeoSTARe studies included an analysis of potential user applications, assuming a mission concept of a broad, L-band, fixed beam plus a steerable X-band beam. It was demonstrated the capability of such a system to improve scientific knowledge and provide operationally valuable information covering different challenges of Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Solid Earth and Land Surface (Wadge et al., 2014).
The SINERGY project aims at investigating and demonstrating the scientific readiness of methods for applying geosynchronous SAR data in the field of meteorology and hydrology.

Goals

Il Progetto SINERGY ha due obiettivi principali:
1) esplorare l'utilizzo dei dati di un SAR geosincrono per applicazioni di tipo meteorologico e idrologico e dimostrarne la maturità scientifica;
2) in base ai requisiti osservativi, elaborare un disegno preliminare di un SAR geosincrono in banda C.

Start date of activity
