The VISIONE system won the Video Browser Showdown 2024

The VISIONE system, developed by Giuseppe Amato, Paolo Bolettieri, Fabio Carrara, Fabrizio Falchi, Claudio Gennaro, Nicola Messina, Lucia Vadicamo, and Claudio Vairo from the AIMH laboratory of Cnr-Isti, ranked first at the 13th Video Browser Showdown (VBS2024) — an international competition in interactive video retrieval. In particular, VISIONE scored as the best interactive video search system in four, out of the seven, tasks carried out in the competition by both expert and novice users, and resulted the overall winner of the competition (https://videobrowsershowdown.org/hall-of-fame/).

The competition, held on January 29, 2024, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as part of the International Conference on Multimedia Modeling (MMM 2024), witnessed the participation of 12 international teams from Austria, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Singapore, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Vietnam. These teams competed over a 6-hour challenge, addressing diverse video search tasks across three datasets with approximately 2500 hours of video content.

VISIONE features the integration of multiple search functionalities that allow users to search for video segments by using textual and visual queries, complemented by temporal search capabilities. VISIONE exploits state-of-the-art deep learning approaches for the visual content analysis and highly efficient indexing techniques to ensure fast response and scalability.
