IPROMO Central Asia 2026 has come to an end. The first edition of the geographically focused Summer School was hosted at the University of Central Asia Campus in Naryn, surrounded by the magnificent Tien Shan mountains.
More than 20 participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with different backgrounds (academia, government, NGOs…), attended an intensive two-week program of lectures, field trips, and working groups concerning the mountains and cryosphere.
The opening ceremony comprised high-level, opening remarks and an introduction by the scientific directors of the main IPROMO Summer School (starting within few days!), Michele Freppaz (University of Torino) and Danilo Godone (National Research Council of Italy); then, under the guidance of Thomas Hofer (FAO-Mountain Partnership) and Denis Samyn (University of Central Asia), participants were guided into the core of the course.
The closing ceremony took place on the last day of the school with the presentation of the participants’ work and the delivery of the diplomas.
