Between March 26 and 28, a delegation from Shanghai University (SHU) visited several CNR facilities, with the aim of further strengthening the ongoing scientific collaboration between the two institutions. The SHU delegation was headed by the Chairperson of the Council of Shanghai University, Prof. CHENG Danhong
On March 26, the SHU delegation visited the ARTOV-CNR in Rome, where they were welcomed by Prof. Aldo di Carlo (Director of ISM Institute) and Dr. Paolo Barone (CNR-SPIN). The delegation toured the various laboratories at ARTOV and explored opportunities for future collaboration.
On March 27, a meeting took place at the CNR Headquarters. It was organized by Dr. Fabio Miletto Granozio (Director of the SPIN Institute) in collaboration with Dr. Francesca Argenio (International Affairs Office of CNR), Dr. Alessandro Stroppa and Dr. Paolo Barone. Dr. Fabio Miletto Granozio opened the session with an overview of CNR's strategic role in Italy's research landscape, emphasizing the cutting-edge work of the DSFTM and SPIN Institutes and their relevance in addressing contemporary societal challenges. Dr. Alessandro Stroppa presented the long-term collaboration between CNR-SPIN and Shanghai University (SHU), emphasizing the established partnership through joint initiatives with SHU and other leading Chinese institutions. He summarized the scientific achievements, including co-authored publications and training programs and presented a forward-looking perspective. Prof. Guido Caldarelli (Director of ISC) introduced the Institute for Complex Systems' pioneering work on the topic of complexity, demonstrating how this interdisciplinary approach aligns with modern society's demand for innovative solutions. Prof. Cheng Danhong, Chairperson of SHU's Council, delivered a video presentation illustrating SHU's academic excellence and research leadership in China and expressed strong interest in expanding collaborations with Italian research institutions. The event concluded with a discussion on shared research priorities and the commitment to deepen institutional ties.
On March 28, Prof. Wei Ren and Prof. Cheng Tang visited CNR-SPIN in Naples, welcomed by Director Fabio Miletto Granozio (CNR-SPIN). The SHU members gave scientific seminars and visited the SPIN laboratories in Naples.
The partnership that CNR and SHU are planning to strengthen was spearheaded in the last decade by Alessandro Stroppa (CNR-SPIN) and Prof. Wei Ren (SHU) through more than 40 joint papers and 5 international schools, focused on multiferroics, AI-driven materials design, and beyond. A list of joint Schools, including one still to be held on June 2025, is shown at the end of this report.
