Il Cnr e lo European Research Council

The National Research Council of Italy (Cnr) supports its scientists and joined the ERC Visiting Fellowship Programme and ERC Mentoring Initiative
In the frame of the 2021 agreement between the European Research Council (ERC) and the National Research Council of Italy, Cnr  actively implement two key actions to support its scientists to apply at the ERC Starting, Consolidator, Advanced and Synergy Grant calls 2024 and 2025, in all scientific domains (Physical and Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities):

ERC Visiting Fellowship Programme (VFP) - Call for Applications 2024

  • What is it?
    VFP allows researchers to visit an ERC grant holder to spend a period as a visitor fellow. It represents an opportunity for Cnr researchers to visit an ERC funded Principal Investigator to gain experience for applying to future ERC grant call.

  • How to apply?
    Cnr has included the ERC Visiting Fellowship Programme in the frame of its Mobility programmes.
    Cnr Researchers planning to submit a research proposal to ERC apply to the CNR VFP open call. This enables them to access the list of the ERC grantees available for hosting a visitor, from which they can select the ERC grantee where they would like to spend the visit, presenting a dedicated visiting research program.
    The selection committee of the CNR VFP call, including experts with ERC grants’ expertise, will evaluate the applications and select the successful candidates, who will be funded according to the current Cnr mobility rules.

  • What is needed to apply?
  1. an outline of the future proposal to be submitted to one of the ERC calls;
  2. a signed statement of the applicant declaring that he/she will submit a project proposal to an ERC call within three consecutive ERC calls after the end of the VFP;
  3. a letter of support from the ERC grantee and the hosting research institution.

ERC Mentoring Initiative 2024

Internationally established scholars, who have served as members of ERC evaluation panels, or who have held ERC grants themselves will act as mentors for CNR applicants. The aim is to give customized advice for the proposal preparation through one-to-one discussion with the mentors. Additional information about ERC Mentoring Initiative are available in the attached file.

If you are willing to take advantage of this opportunity, please send your applications to: europa[at]cnr.it.

The application should consist of three parts:

  • an abstract according to the specifications required for the cover of a B1 application (max. 2,000 characters);
