  • We report on chemical sensing based on evanescent wave detection in optical fiber sensors. Detection sensitivity is enhanced by inserting evanescent wave sensors into fiber-loop resonators interrogated by single frequency lasers or optical frequency combs. Cavity ring-down spectroscopy is used to identify chemical species and measure concentrations of liquid samples. Further improvements of detection performance based on the combination of fiber sensors with plasmonic devices are under study for specific applications. (literal)
