Born 1965. Since 1993, his scientific activity has been developing along four main lines of research: 1) Integrated multiscale Remote sensing methods in Archaeology 2) non-invasive sensing technologies and sciences for Architectural and Archaeological heritage conservation and management, 3) Sciences for Conservation and Architectural Restoration; 4) integrated approaches to cultural heritage management and valorization Currently, he is Senior Researcher and Responsible of CNR-IBAM seat of Potenza, Visiting Professor of RADI-Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, Professor of Architectural restoration in the School of Architecture of Univ. of Basilicata seat of Matera, and Director of the Italian Archaeogeophysics and Heritage Conservation Mission (ITACA) in Peru.
He authored and co-authored 310 scientific publications among which papers in international journals. chapters and volumes. He co-edited, with R. Lasaponara, Satellite Remote Sensing. A new tool for Archaeology (2011), with R. Lasaponara and G. Orefici "The Ancient Nasca World. New Insights from Science and Archaeology" (2016), and several special issues of international journals on Remote sensing in Archaeology, sensing technologies for cultural heritage conservation, archaeological sciences. Guest editor of "Journal of Archaeological Science", "Journal of Cultural Heritage", "Remote Sensing", " Archaeological Prospection ", " Near Surface Geophysic", "Journal of Geophysics and Engineering", " International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation" Component of the Editorial board of several journals among which: "Remote Sensing", "Journal of Geophysics and Engineering", " Geoscientific Instrumentation, Methods and Data System".. He chaired conferences and workshops in the field of remote sensing archaeology (EARSEL 2008; 2013), international schools (ESA school of Matera 2013, CNR school in Pompeii 2016), scientific sessions on sensing technologies for cultural heritage (EGU 2009-2016). He directed several scientific missions in Peru (archaeological sites of Nasca, Cahuachi, Ventarron, Pachacamac, Chachabamba, Machu Picchu), Colombia (the Walled city of Cartagena), Italia (Pompeii, the cathedrals of Troia and Matera). He co-directed missions in China (archaeological sites of Luoyang, Kaifeng in Henan) and Bolivia (Tiwanaku). He has been responsible for IBAM-CNR of several national and international projects on Cultural Heritage management among which ByJeriNet, PRO_CULT, Athena, and bilateral projects in the field of heritage science and cultural heritage management in China, Spain and Colombia. Award: Winner in 2016 of CAS (Chinese Academy of Science) President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), awarded as best paper in several conferences such as Conference RSCy 2013, EGU 2011, EGU 2012, EGU 2013., Rotary Award (2007) "Outstanding Researchers", assigned by Rotary Foundation - Italy, CNR Highlights 2008-09 and 2009-10.
