Born on 28.11.1972 in Milan, married with two daughters

Education 1991-1992 Studies at the Department of Physics, University of California - Berkeley. 1992-1998 Degree in Physics from the University of Parma, degree mark 110/110 cum laude 1998-2000 Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physics from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) 2000-2003 Ph.D. Diploma in Physics from the University of Parma, with research at IMEM-CNR

Professional Experience 2003 - 2006: Fixed term researcher at IMEM-CNR within a FIRB project of MIUR. 2006 - 2009: Grant holder under the same project FIRB. 2009 -: Permanent CNR researcher at IMEM-CNR.

Relevant activities / Projects

1998-2000: participation in the TMR research network EMIT (ElectroMagnetic Interactions in Tunneling) of the EU. 2000-2003: participation as grant holder in the CNR project MADESS II. 2003-2006: participation as fixed-term researcher in the FIRB project "Nanotechnologies and Nanodevices for the Information Society" of the Italian Research Minister. 2004-2008: participation as researcher in the EU Network of Excellence "SANDiE - Self-assembled nanostructures for new Devices in photonics and Electronics". 2010: Proposal of project SHINY-MAT "Solar cells with High efficiency based on novel INtermediate energY band MATerials" for the call FIRB- Futuro in Ricerca of Italian Research Minister as Project Coordinator. The project has been evaluated with 55/60 points. 2012: Proposal of project gIRaSOLE " InteRmediate band SOLar cells based on Quantum Dot and Impurity Levels" for the call FIRB- Futuro in Ricerca of MIUR as Coordinator of the CNR Unit. The project has been evaluated with 98/100 points. 2013: Proposal of STREP project PASQUAL " Dot-to-Dot PlASmon coupling and QUAntum Light chips" for the call FP7-ICT-2011-C­(ICTFET-Open) as Coordinator of the Italian CNR Unit. 2014: Participation in COST Action "Nanoscale Quantum Optics" (NQO). 2015: Proposal of project SINPHONY " Dot-to-Dot PlASmon coupling and QUAntum Light chips" for the call MSCA-ETN-HO2020 as Coordinator of whole project (10 beneficiaries + 7 associated partners).

o Teaching experience: project "Scientific Degrees / Material Science" of the University of Parma, for students of secondary schools and "European School for Advanced Studies (ESAS) in Materials Science" (University of Pavia) for PhD students.

o External examiner for 3 PhD Thesis Defenses at University of Valencia (2010), UAM Madrid (2011), University of Lancaster (2013).

o Author of 50 articles on peer-reviewed journals and of 3 book chapters. H-index = 14.

o Referee for Applied Physics Letters, Physica E, Journal of Applied Physics, Journal of Luminescence, CrystEngComm, Nanoscale Research Letters.

oReviewer for Italian Minister of Research (FIRB, SIR Projects), Italian Minister of Economic Development (FCS-MISE projects).

1) Design, MOVPE growth and SEM characterization of Germanium Nanowires for applications in molecular sensing.

2) Design, MBE growth and PL/AFM study of semiconductor InAs/InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) with engineered strain for emission in the 1.3-1.55 µm window suitable as single photon sources for applications in quantum computing and quantum cryptography.

3) Modelization of semiconductor nanostructures: quantum dots, nanowires, rolled-up nanotubes.

4) Optical characterization of semiconductor materials.
