The CNR Institute of Neuroscience (CNR-IN) is part of PREMSTEM, a European Union–funded research project, which investigates how stem cells may help repair brain injury after preterm birth. PRESTEM’s work goes beyond the lab - one of its key goals is to engage with the wider public, sharing knowledge and raising awareness about preterm birth and neonatal brain injury.
We're excited to share 'Growing Together – A Shared Journey from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to Now' – a life-inspired illustrated story created through the collaboration between PREMSTEM partners, parents and artists. The story follows two children, Adam and Sophia, born preterm. Through the eyes of their parents, we witness the emotional and practical challenges of preterm birth — and the strength, care, and hope that guide families forward. It’s a reminder that every journey of children born preterm is unique, and every step forward matters.
This illustrated story highlights the importance of support networks — from medical professionals and teachers to friends who truly understand. By combining science and storytelling, this story aims to help families and caregivers understand these experiences and inspire hope for the future.
