Abstract
The possibility of combining diagnostics and therapy at intracellular level is the objective of this research line. This objective is pursued by means of the design, realisation and characterization of functionalised nanostructures capable to internalise at intracellular level fluorescent probes able to act at the same time as molecular biomarkers of intracellular target and as therapeutic drugs.
Particular attention is given to antisense oligonucleotidic switches, suitable molecules which turn on or modify their light emission on molecular interaction with well-defined molecular mRNA targets and which, at the same time, provides the pharmacological silencing activity preventing the overexpression of proteins associated to pathologic conditions.
A not negligible activity is also devoted to the nanocarriers capable to enter the cell and to the different strategies to be adopted to facilitate their internalization
Goals
Sviluppo di sonde fluorescenti intracellulari in grado di agire simultaneamente come elemento diagnostico e terapeutico in grado sia di rivelare la presenza di un determinato mRNA a livello intracellulare sia di svolgere un'azione farmacologica dentro la cellula, fornendo così uno strumento di estrema utilità nell'ambito delle strategie moderne di terapia personalizzata
