Abstract
The project comprises two integrated objectives: (i) implementation of a functional device for multiplexed biomarker detection and liquid-sample processing based on novel nanotechnologies and (ii) identification of biomarkers for glioblastoma (GBM) in novel murine models.
Technological objective: Development of a point-of-care device for the multiplexed and ultrasensitive detection of multiple biomarkers in liquid samples.
A diagnostic platform will be engineered to detect either genetic markers (i.e. miRNA, mRNA, ctDNA) or protein markers. Multiplexed high-sensitivity molecular sensing will be realized within a microfluidic device combining Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) transducers to actuate fluid mixing and circulation
Discovery objective: Discovery and validation of new markers for glioblastoma.
We shall target the identification of cancer biomarkers present in the blood of a novel murine model of GBM that can provide a fingerprint of the diseases under study. These biomarkers will be evaluated both as an aid to detection and prognosis, and as reporters of tumor progression and recurrence.
