Degree in Biology. Since the preparation of experimental thesis in plant biochemistry and subsequently during various fellowships and research contracts in different institutes of the National Research Council, Dr. Gallo has worked on biochemical and molecular characterization of storage proteins and enzymes involved in several plant metabolisms, on the isolation of the corresponding genes and on the analysis of their expression. Since 2001, she worked for 1 year at the Molecular Genetics Department of the John Innes Center in Norwich, England, with a CNR fellowship. During this period her activity was focused on the genetic study of sugar signalling and carbohydrate allocation in Arabidopsis thaliana. Since 2002 she has worked at Institute of Sciences of Food Production, CNR in Bari, on the identification and characterization of mycotoxin biosynthesis genes in filamentous fungi. In 2008 she got a permanent position as researcher in the same institute. Since 2013 she has been working at the unit of Lecce of the same institute.

Interest areas:

Molecular microbiology and biotecnology in the field of quality and safety of agrifood products. Analysis of microbial diversity. Molecular studies on the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and on the regulatory mechanisms for their production. Development of diagnostic molecular assays for the monitoring of microrganisms contaminating agrifood products.
