Graduated in Biology at the University of Bari, Italy. Researcher at Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA), National Research Council of Italy (CNR). She has twenty years of experience in the field of mycotoxin analysis . During her research she has worked on quality and safety of food with particular reference to issues related to contamination by toxigenic fungi and mycotoxins, development and validation of traditional and innovative methods for analysis of food contaminants, including spectroscopy based-methods, synthesis of synthetic mediators for mycotoxins and other contaminants (aptamers, molecularly imprinted polymers); effect of food processing on mycotoxins, organization of collaborative studies for validation of methods for the analysis of mycotoxins and relative statistical treatment of data according to AOAC/IUPAC guidelines, organization of proficiency testing and relative statistical treatment of data according to ISO/IUPAC guidelines. She has also developed and validated through collaborative studies two methods for fumonisins determination in maize and cornaflakes and maize-based baby food that have been adopted as AOAC International official methods and CEN standard methods. She spent periods of study abroad at the "State Institute for Quality Control of Agricultural Products (RIKILT) Department of Food Safety and Health" in Wageningen (The Netherlands), within the project "Concerted Action Contract N° FAIR-98-4094, Mycotochain" to gain experience on methods used for the assessment of consumer exposure to mycotoxins; at the Universidad National de Rio Cuarto, (Rio Cuarto, Cordoba, Argentina) within the bilateral project for scientific cooperation between CNR (Italy) and CONICET (Argentina) to gain experience on biomarkers of mycotoxin exposure; at the Department of Animal Feed, National Veterinary Institute (Uppsala, Sweden) to gain experience on near infrared spectroscopy for the detection of fungal infection and mycotoxins in feeds and on the multivariate statistical analysis; at the Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) to gain experience on the use of the SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential Enrichment) procedure for the in-vitro selection of DNA synthetic mediators (aptamers) specific for mycotoxins.

Has been member representing of the Directive Committee of ISPA-CNR. Member of the International Society for Mycotoxicology (ISM). Member of the Editorial Board of "Journal of Chemistry" and Biosensors-Special Issue "Spectroscopy-Based Biosensors"(ISI Journals). Evaluator of MIUR research projects. Member of scientific committees at CNR competitions. Supervisor of PhD thesis on Food Safety. Tutor of degree thesis in Analytical Chemistry. Teacher at post-graduate masters. Referee for several International Scientific Journals. Training Laboratory Assistant in several international courses.

Development, optimization and validation of traditional, innovative and rapid analytical methods for determining mycotoxins in food, feed and biological fluid; fate of mycotoxins during food processing; infrared spectroscopy for mycotoxin analysis and for food authentication; synthesis of synthetic mediators for mycotoxins; immunoassays.
