Prefazione
This volume collects the lectures presented at the 2nd
European Symposium on Polyma Spectroscopy and at the Meeting on Problems
of Copolymer Statistics, which took pIace in Milan, June 15-18, 1971.
The Symposium was organized by the Centro Ricerche di Milano, Montecatini
Edison S.p.A., with the cooperation of the Istituto di Chimica delle
Macromolecole del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and the Società
Chimica Italiana (Sezione Lombarda).
It consisted of some generallectures, and of two Round Tables, respectively
on ' Studies on Polymer Structure by IR Spectroscopy , and
' N MR Spectroscopy of Polymers '. Purpose of the lectures
was to survey broadly recent developments and trends of polymer spectroscopy,
that ofthe round tables was to spur on discusions among European researchers
on the present situation of the two most popular spectroscopic techniques.
Some lectures are published in unabridged form, for others, instead,
only a comprehensive abstract is given, since these papers are either pari
of a series of works dealing with the same topic, and the authors have preferred
to publish them all in the same journal, or describe data already published
or in the press, while the truly new results were noi enough to justify
unabridged papers.
For contributions by more than one author, the reader's name is marked
with an asterisk.
In the name of the Organizing Committee, I wish to seize this last opportunity
to express my appreciation to all who have come to this Symposium and to
all those who ullingly and actively collaborated to ensure its successo
In particular, it is a pleasure fo me to acknowledge with deep gratitude
