Images of the sky are created using the coded aperture technique wherein each point in the detection plane contributes to the final image. For this reason the sensitivity at any point in the image is highly dependent on both the total background and its spatial and temporal uniformity. Herein we describe the PICsIT in-flight background, for the principal modes of operation, from the point of view of total count rate and spectrum, and discuss both the spatial and temporal stability.\nBased on observations with INTEGRAL, an ESA project with instruments and science data centre funded by ESA member states (especially the PI countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain), Czech Republic and Poland, and with the participation of Russia and the USA.\n" . @prefix istituto: . prodotto:ID5684 prodottidellaricerca:prodottoDi istituto:CDS005 ; pubblicazioni:autoreCNR unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA4337 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA2344 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA29029 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA731 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA9556 . istituto:CDS005 prodottidellaricerca:prodotto prodotto:ID5684 .
