This shallow gulf is considered a\ncomplex area, presently not well studied (as opposed to the\nNorthern Adriatic Sea), where anthropogenic pressure plays\nan important role for pollution phenomena and alteration of\nthe marine ecosystem.\nThe aim of this study was to investigate early diagenesis\nprocesses that produce benthic fluxes affecting the chemistry\nof water column. Two oceanographic cruises were carried out\nin late summer 2002 and in late winter 2003 to evaluate the\nseasonal variations of early diagenetic processes. Sediment\ncores were collected in two sites (inside and in the offshore\nboundary of the gulf) in which high sedimentation processes\noccur. Parameters on the solid fraction and pore waters\nprofiles of TCO2, NH3, NO3, PO4\n3-, SO4\n2-, alkalinity, Fe, Mn,\nCa and Mg were determined in each site. Benthic fluxes were\nmeasured using two benthic chambers in each site.\nThe 234Th profiles show a more intense bioturbation in the\nfirsts centimetre of sediment in the inner station and the\nsedimentation rate, calculated by 210Pbex and 137Cs profiles,\nranging from 0.40 gcm-2 y-1 in the inner shelf to\n0.49 gcm-2 y-1 in the outer gulf. In winter, pore water profiles\nsuggest oxic and anoxic degradation of reactive organic matter\nless intense and occurring in a thinner layer close to the\nsediment-water interface in both site Reactive organic matter\ndegradation products also show an intense irrigation in the\nfirsts centimetres of sediments in both stations. During the\nsummer, the pore water profiles reflect remineralization\nprocesses limited to a very thin layer close to the sediment\nwater interface in both stations but higher in the shallowest\nsite. Measured benthic fluxes will be compared with the fluxes\nobtained by pore water modelization to investigate sedimentwater\ninterface processes."@en . @prefix ns13: . prodotto:ID49215 pubblicazioni:editore ns13:ID12339 ; prodottidellaricerca:prodottoDi modulo:ID4126 , istituto:CDS080 ; pubblicazioni:autoreCNR unitaDiPersonaleEsterno:ID5079 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA10331 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA5348 , unitaDiPersonaleEsterno:ID5185 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA5905 . @prefix parolechiave: . prodotto:ID49215 parolechiave:insiemeDiParoleChiave . ns12:ID574375 pubblicazioni:rivistaDi prodotto:ID49215 . ns13:ID12339 pubblicazioni:editoreDi prodotto:ID49215 . parolechiave:insiemeDiParoleChiaveDi prodotto:ID49215 .
