The\nprevailing oceanic currents were obtained from a state-of-the-art\nreal-time nowcast/forecast ocean circulation model, while the\nsea state was inferred from a numerical model of the surface\ngravity waves, both driven by regional atmospheric models. The\nsurface currents (from the ocean model) and the drift ones at the\nocean surface, as inferred from the wave model, were used to\ndrive a Lagrangian model of the drifting body to deduce its\nplausible trajectory along the Ligurian coast. The inferred path is\nreasonably consistent with location and time of the discovery on\nthe French coast. This note illustrates the utility of numerical\nprediction models at the disposal of modern forensic science in\nthe fields of ocean sciences."@en ; prodottidellaricerca:prodottoDi istituto:CDS080 ; pubblicazioni:autoreCNR unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA41 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA5719 , unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA6826 . ns10:ID219198 pubblicazioni:rivistaDi prodotto:ID48779 .
