Although it is often difficult, it is\nnecessary to separate the two processes for risk assessment\nand understanding the environmental implications. The aimof\nthis study was to analyse the soil concentrations of various\nPTEs in a southern Italy area in order to: (1) determine their\ndifferent correlation structure to isolate sources of variation\nacting at different spatial scales and (2) to define potential\nanomalies based on the correlation structure.\nMaterials and methods In the urban and peri-urban area of\nCosenza-Rende, 149 topsoil samples were collected (0.10 m)\nand analysed for different elements by X-ray fluorescence\nspectrometry. Principal component analysis and factorial kriging\nanalysis were used to map the spatial distribution of PTEs\nin topsoil and to identify the main factors influencing their\nspatial variability.\nResults and discussion Two groups of PTEs were identified:\nthe first group included As, Pb and Zn; and the second one\nAl, Co, Cr, Fe, La, Nb, Ni, Ti and V. The first group was\nrelated to anthropogenic causes, while the second one was\nmore related to parent rock composition. The regionalized\nfactors at different scales of variability allowed to aggregate\nand summarize the joint variability in the PTEs and consider\nthe probable causes of soil pollution.\nConclusions The study allowed analysing and quantifying\nthe sources (environmental or anthropogenic) of variation of\nPTEs acting at different spatial scale and defining the spatial\nanomalies based on the correlation structure associated at\nthe different spatial scales."@en ; prodottidellaricerca:prodottoDi modulo:ID8111 , istituto:CDS084 ; pubblicazioni:autoreCNR unitaDiPersonaleInterno:MATRICOLA5519 , unitaDiPersonaleEsterno:ID17340 . ns12:ID51352 pubblicazioni:rivistaDi prodotto:ID194229 .
