The latter gradually decayed into a further \nspectroscopic derivative (lambda(max) = 540 and 403 nm) tentatively \nidentified as a complex of ferric heme with the antibiotic oxidation \nproduct(s), and the resulting enzyme was fully inactivated. Since \nmyeloperoxidase is the only human enzyme known to convert chloride \nions into the cytotoxic hypochlorous acid, the data presented in this \npaper bear relevance to the pharmacological effects of aminoglycoside \nantibiotics, which, while inhibiting bacterial growth, also prevent \noxidative cellular damage caused by hypochlorous acid aging as \nsubstrates and inhibitors of myeloperoxidase.\n" ; prodottidellaricerca:prodottoDi istituto:CDS013 . ns9:ID435818 pubblicazioni:rivistaDi prodotto:ID11246 .
